Labels painted on the one-story, white building in this 4-1/4" x 3-1/2" black and white photograph show "Town Hall" in the east end and "Valley Hose Co." in the west end. At the fire department end are two large double doors and ropes connected to the alarm bell on the top of the building. A flag pole with a flag, also on top of the building, is centered over the construction date of "1903.". Printed on the photograph is: No. 4, Town Hall, Valley, Nebr.
The Valley Town Hall and fire department was built near the Opera House on Gardiner Street. The original fire alarm bell was replaced in 1925 with a siren. The town's fire fighting equipment was housed in this building until 1957 when the building was torn down. Alex Gardiner was Valley's first fire chief.
