Street view of the State Journal Company located at 900-910 P Street, Lincoln. The corner of the three-story brick building is angled with a raised entrance. The date 1880 is set in stone between the second and third story windows over the entrance and State Journal Company is painted on each side of the building at the same level. In the corner over the third story, State Journal is lettered in stone and a flagpole sits above it. To the right, two bicycles lie on the sidewalk in front of a side door with Evening New painted above. Stenciling on the windows advertises: printing, lithographing, blank books, legal blanks, stationery, type writers, office appliances, safes and vault work. Buildings to the right house Petry Bakery at 912 P Street and the Capital City Meat Company at 916 P Street. Utility poles line the sidewalks and street car tracks run down the dirt roads.
According to Hoye's City Directory of Lincoln, 1899, State Journal Company's President was Charles H. Gere, Charles D. Traphagen was Vice President and Secretary, and Joseph C. Seacrest was Manager. Benjamin Beha managed Capital City Meat Company and Frank J. Petry owned Petry Bakery. The southeast branch of Lincoln City Libraries is named for Charles Gere.
