Sepia-toned photograph (12 x 18 cm.) portrait of an unidentified member of the Omaha Police Department of Omaha, Nebraska. He has a handlebar moustache and a large ring on his left ring finger. He is wearing a knee-length jacket buttoned with nine buttons that come down to the waist with a badge on the left side of his chest. His hat is a lighter color with a dark band. There is a medallion on the hat with what looks like the number 362. Written in pencil on the reverse of the photograph is the number 211 and South.
According to Joachim Dankiw and Andy Passo of the Omaha Police Department, the style of uniform the officer is wearing dates this image to around the 1909 era. Comparing this photo with those in the Omaha Police Department Public Information Office, this officer may be John S. Coffey, Patrolman, born in Ireland, June 22, 1873; appointed April 1, 1900. Source: Bartling, Howard (compiler). Omaha Police Department Official Historical Souvenir: compiled for the benefit of the Omaha Police Relief Fund. Omaha: Waters Printing Company, 1909. According to Ronnie M. Frizzell, Omaha, Nebraska police badge and patch collector, based on the style of badge the officer is wearing, this police officer may not be from the Omaha Police Department, and may be incorrectly identified as John S. Coffey who was with the Omaha Police Department.
