Farnam School, located on the southeast corner of 29th Avenue and Farnam Street in Omaha, Nebraska, can be seen in this black and white lantern slide. The three-story brick building has many windows and a chimney. A man-made bank of dirt, the result of a street re-grading project, is visible in the background behind the school.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, several street re-grading projects took place in Omaha. In certain areas, the street level was lowered. Dirt from these areas was used to raise the grade in other sections of the city.
