Color postcard (14 x 9 cm.) is captioned "High School, York, Neb." in red text at the top left side of the image. It shows what looks like an artist's rendering of an exterior view of the York High School or Central School in York, Nebraska. It is a large two story red brick building with lower level basement windows and upper dormer windows. There are trees and a utility pole in front. The building stood on the block bounded by 7th, 8th, Grand Nebraska Streets.
This is a view of Central School. The "south extension" was built in 1897, and the corner in the right foreground became the site of York's Post Office, with construction started in 1907. This is a colorized version; the same negative was used to produce black and white postcard prints as well. The school burned in February, 1917. Numerous views of the building have appeared in books about York's history. Source: Stan Schultz, Library Director, Kilgore Memorial Library, York, Nebraska.
