New Omaha Grain Exchange, in course of construction, Omaha, Neb.
Description
Color postcard (13 1/2 x 8 1/2 cm) with a view of the New Omaha Grain Exchange under construction at 1905 Harney, southwest corner of 19th & Harney, Omaha, Nebraska. It was completed in 1916. This is an artist's drawing, showing a proposed view of the building and not the building as it was actually constructed.
The nucleus of the Omaha Grain Exchange was born on September 9, 1903. A group of local businessmen decided that, since 400 million bushels of grain passed through Omaha, it would make a great place to sell it. The New Grain Exchange building was constructed in 1916 at the southwest corner of 19th & Harney Streets for a total cost of $1 million.
