This 7" x 9" black and white photograph shows the Italianate style home of Lucy Jane Rogers, located at 236 East Military Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. Lucy Jane Rogers is standing at the left on the side porch, and her daughter, Ida Rogers Moe, is by her side on the right. The house was built in 1870, but changes have been made to modernize it. The addition of a three window bay alters the home's original symmetrical appearance. The wooden storm shutters have also been removed, although the hinge brackets are still visible. The tower's finial has been replaced along with the surrounding spindle railing. A wing has been added to the west side of the dwelling, along with a porch which is trimmed with mass produced brackets and spindles available from mail order companies. Another side porch has been added to the home on the east. The house appears to have a fresh coat of paint and at least two colors were used. Military Avenue, a dirt thoroughfare, runs parallel to the raised wooden sidewalk in front of the house. Horse hitching posts of wood are visible nearby. A recently installed post may be for a telephone line. Laundry, consisting of white linens, hangs on clothes lines at the rear of the property.
