This 7" x 9" albumen photograph of the George and Nancy Turner home on First Street in Fremont, Nebraska, records not only their Italianate style villa, but their vast, shady grounds as well. This large yard is set up for summer comfort and entertainment. A netted hammock is suspended from two trees, and a croquet set stands ready for players. The croquet wickets are visible above the shaggy grass and the croquet mallets are leaning against one another to create a pyramid formation. Urns with potted plants are placed at intervals in the yard. An unidentified female figure, perhaps Nancy Turner, is posed near the front entrance of the home. She is holding a walking stick or croquet mallet. The house itself has a low pitched roof, overhanging eaves with decorative wooden brackets, and a roofed entry porch. The window tops are segmental arches and are typical of the Italianate architectural style.
