The building which housed the Western Theological Seminary is seen in this sepia toned photograph from about 1920. The location is Nye Avenue between Sixteenth and Seventeenth Streets. The architecture seen here is in the Neoclassical style. This can be seen in the use of the symmetrical, full height porch which is supported by fluted, classical columns and dominates the entire front of the building. The flat or low hipped roof, roof top balustrades, overhanging eaves with dentils, and the sun room wing are all additional clues. The grounds include a closely clipped lawn, flowering bushes, trees, a gazing ball, and concrete planters filled with plants or topiaries.
Western Theological Seminary purchased this former private residence from Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nye in 1921. This photograph was taken about the time of the sale and Mr. and Mrs. Nye are seated on the front porch in rocking chairs. It is currently the home of the Dodge County Historical Society's Louis E. May Museum.
