A two-story limestone building with an ornate façade in a Renaissance Revival style stands between two brick buildings in this 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" black and white photograph. "1891 Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Nebraska 1921" is carved into the building. An automobile is parked on the street in front of the building, where the curb is painted to indicate 10 minute parking. "Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Nebraska" is written on the photograph.
Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was founded in 1891 and remains an active Nebraska company with a new headquarters building under construction in Lincoln in 2012. In 1921, A W. Woods adapted an apartment building that stood at 1220 P Street for the insurance company, applying on of Lincoln's most ornate commercial facades, richly carved of limestone in the Renaissance Revival style. The building is now part of the Swanson Russell advertising agency. The license plate on the car parked in the "10 minute parking" zone provides the photo's date of 1928. A 1929 advertisement stated that Farmers Mutual provided "Fire, Lightning, Windstorm, Cyclone and Tornado insurance on Farm property and town dwellings.
