Historical Notes
Claude R. Frater was born March 6, 1886, in Iowa to John J. and Lillian Kennedy Frater. John Frater owned a drugstore in downtown David City, Nebraska. After graduation, Claude moved to Ketchnikan, Alaska, where he worked as a druggist for the Walker Drug Co. Archie Gates was born in Butler County, Nebraska, September 9, 1888, to Gideon and Jennie Gates. He married Rose Helen Styskal, October 26, 1910, at St. Mary's Church in David City. He worked in the Gates Bakery in downtown David City for a short time before moving to Long Beach, California, with his wife and two children. Archie died April, 1966, St. Louis, Missouri.
