A 4"x6" glass plate negative, portrait photograph of John H., Ella, Grace, Nora and Glen Boston. The man is wearing a mustache, dark three-piece suit, white shirt with stiff collar and plaid bow tie. The woman is wearing a long-sleeve black dress with scoop-neck bodice insert of black lace lined with lighter-colored fabric and outlined with twisted cord, stiff high-stand collar with brooch and watch chain around her neck with the watch pinned to her bodice. Grace is wearing a black long-sleeve dress with bodice slit to the waist, under blouse of printed fabric with stiff, high-stand collar with portrait brooch at the neckline, a watch chain around her neck and watch pinned to her bodice along with a sunburst pin. Nora is wearing a dark, long-sleeve dress with scoop cut bodice with dark trim and short row of tucks in the front with a plaid under blouse with high-stand collar. Historical Notes |
ohn Henry Boston was a brother of Harvey L. Boston. John H. was born in Round Grove, Illinois, February 9, 1863, the son of John A. and Sarah Durstine Boston. He married Ella Mary Hendrickson in Iowa in 1885. Ella was born in Story County, Iowa, November, 1866. They lived in Story County, Iowa, and raised threechildren: Grace, born August, 1887; Nora, born November, 1891; and Glen D., born January, 1898. John worked as a blacksmith, as a concrete worker and farmed. John died January 5, 1931. |
