Historical Notes
Michael Demuth was born October 7, 1842, in Sandweiler, Luxemburg. Anna Meysenburg was born May 7, 1846, also in Sandweiler, Luxemburg. They both came to the United States in 1868 and married February 4, 1868, in Cascade, Iowa. They moved to Butler County, Nebraska, in February, 1870, homesteading in Bone Creek township near what became known as the Luxemburg settlement because of the large number of immigrants from Luxemburg. Luxemburg consisted primarily of the Catholic church, Presentation Parish. Other families in the settlement included Michael's brother Jacob, Anna's brothers P.N. and John Meysenburg, and Anna's sister Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Schlentz.
