Historical Notes
Clark and Ivan Beede were two of three children born to Dr. Simon and Permelia "Millie" Clark Beede. Dr. Simon Beede attended the University of Iowa Medical School and moved to Surprise, Nebraska, shortly after graduation. The family later moved to David City, Nebraska, where Simon practiced for over 25 years and founded the first hospital. Clark and Ivan were both born in Surprise. Clark was born September 17, 1894, and Ivan, August 27, 1896. Both attended the University of Nebraska. Clark pursued a career in medicine and was a veteran of World War I. He also worked at St. Margaret's Memorial Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ivan is listed as a passenger sailing from France to New York in 1921, 1925, 1928 and 1932. Ivan is listed as having served in both WWI and World War II and his residence is listed as New York on his WWII draft card.
