Historical Notes
The Rising City School was established in 1872. The first school was located one mile east of town. In 1880, the school was moved to town and a second structure added. In 1887, the present site of six lots were purchased and a building erected. The first graduating class in 1893 consisted of two young men, George Davis and Alfred Allen. In 1926, the brick structure was built. Fire damaged part of the gymnasium in 1946 and repairs were made. In 1953, a vocational agriculture and shop building were added north of the school. In 1964, a school building was moved to the west side of the building, to be used as a music hall. In 1968, a new gymnasium and five classrooms were added and the kitchen enlarged. The school continues to function at this time.
