Wagon Road near the U.P. tracks after the flood of Mar. 30, 1912, Valley, Neb.
Description
A steam engine is finally able to run on repaired track next to Wagon Road in this 5" x 3" black and white photograph which shows the road badly eroded and utility poles toppled or tilting after the flood of March, 1912. Water still covers part of the road. A man stands on top of one pole to repair it. Two workers stand on the other side of the road near a man sitting in a horse-drawn cart.
Wagon Road followed the railroad tracks from Valley to Mercer, Nebraska, and was used for workers to repair tracks, check wheels on cars or deliver items to men on trains. Damages to the area were estimated at $40,000.
