Black and white photograph (25 x 20 cm.) with a view looking west on Lake Street toward 20th Street in Omaha, Nebraska, after the tornado of March 23, 1913. On the right side of the street a sign above the business by the utility pole identifies it as Edward McEachon Coal and Feed store at 1924 Lake Street. At 2002 Lake Street, a sign on the building identifies it as Tom Johnson's grocery store with meats and bakery.
Few disasters have devastated Omaha as completely as the Easter Tornado of March 23, 1913. The storm descended with terrible force just after Easter services on Sunday evening. The tornado created a path of destruction seven miles long and a quarter mile wide. It killed 140 Omahans and injured 400 others.
