This black and white lantern slide shows Webster School, located on the southwest corner of Webster Street and 28th Avenue in Omaha, Nebraska. The school is surrounded by evidence of a project to re-grade the streets of Omaha, including a huge pile of dirt to the left of the building, and carts belonging to construction crews on the dirt road in front of the school.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, several street re-grading projects took place in Omaha. In certain areas, the street level was lowered. Dirt from these areas was used to raise the grade in other sections of the city.
