Falconer residence being moved to lower street level
In this black and white lantern slide, the Falconer residence, located at 1821 Douglas Street, is being moved during the lowering of Omaha's streets. The two-story house with wooden siding is raised on jacks in preparation for its move to the new, lower street level. The house is being lifted onto a support structure made of logs in order to complete its move to the lower street level. A few carts and other construction equipment can be seen on the ground .
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, several street re-grading projects took place in Omaha. In certain areas, the street level was lowered. Dirt from these areas was used to raise the grade in other sections of the city.
