The Lancaster County, Nebraska, Court House was designed by Omaha architect F. M. Ellis and built by Lincoln contractor, W. H. B. Stout. On November 1, 1888, the cornerstone was laid at its location between 9th & 10th and J & K Streets. The tower and the statue of Lincoln on top were eventually removed because they were too costly to maintain. The building served until 1968 with the completion of the current County-City Building.
