Description
Eleven girls sit at tables in a classroom in this 6" x 4" black and white plate. Nine of them sew by hand, while two sit behind sewing machines. A woman wearing a white blouse and a long dark skirt stands in the far corner of the room. There are three large windows in the back of the room.

Historical Notes
Students at the School for the Deaf took classes in the industrial shops in subjects such as carpentry, printing, shoemaking, farming, painting, baking, freehand drawing, laundering, dressmaking, and fancy needlework. Further information is available in the report.
