This exterior view shows the Gable Front style home of John C. Blackman and his wife Eliza, located at 520 East Fifth Street in Fremont, Nebraska. It has an asymmetrically arranged front entrance and twin, second story windows. The porch runs the width of the home and is trimmed with scroll sawn brackets. The dwelling is surrounded with white picket fencing. A wooden sidewalk runs parallel to the fence. Several young trees have been planted around the home and a small sapling is seen near the walk. The Blackmans' son, Will, is posed in front of the residence on his horse. He is accompanied by Miss Emma Gillette, who is seated on her horse side saddle. Miss Ollie Blackman is barely visible behind the right gate post.
According to building reports in the Fremont Tribune, the house and fence were constructed in the years between 1871-1872. The home still stands at 520 East Fifth Street as of July, 2010.
