This newly constructed Neoclassical style brick residence is the home of Frank and Jessie Fowler, located at 1217 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. This north elevation of the home is actually quite austere in appearance when compared with other images in the series of views made of the Fowler property. Windows are sans awnings and white trim modestly outlines the numerous, symmetrically arranged window types. Twin dormer windows flank the side gable at the attic level while two differing bay windows are positioned below the dormers. Ground floor windows are also evident from this vantage point. Roof line and porch balustrades are visible as is a side view of the full height entry porch which faces east. The north gable end of the stable may be seen at the rear of the house and also evident are railed steps descending from the elevated porch to the lawn. Older growth trees have been trimmed high allowing afternoon sunlight to illuminate the estate and cast long shadows on the expanse of the finely trimmed grass. The residence of Joseph T. May can be glimpsed at the far left of this image.
The 16-acre property at 1217 Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska, was purchased by Frank Fowler from Edward Blewett in 1903. The former Blewett residence was drastically remodeled into a 32-room mansion, while the surrounding grounds were transformed to include the stable, a poultry house, and a gardener's residence. The architect secured for the major building project was Alfred C. Clas of Ferry and Clas, architects of the 1893 World's Fair. The estate was razed in 1958.
