This 7" x 7" photograph shows the interior of the entrance hall at The Elms, the home of Ray and Anna Nye, located at 1643 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. Entrance to this room from the out of doors is gained by double doors with glass window panels. Lace curtain panels remain intact on the doors but other windows in the room are bare save for their patent roller shades which are drawn. The windows are fitted with brass rods and rings but their draperies have been removed, possibly by the Nye's in anticipation of the sale of their home. Oak paneling, beams and crown moldings ornament the room along with an Eastlake staircase which leads to the second floor. Walls above the paneling are papered with canvas and a decorative border skirts the ceiling's perimeter. The varnished floor is protected by an oriental style area rug with a center medallion pattern. Visible furnishings include a Steinway and Sons grand piano with matching bench and two Jacobean Revival style upholstered chairs. A framed and matted print or painting of a musician is suspended by double wires from the ceiling mounted picture molding. Two pieces of pictorial sheet music, "A Modern Eve" and "One Girl in a Million", are displayed on the piano. Artificial lighting for the room is supplied by two electric, ceiling mounted, fixtures. The open doorway at the far right leads to the home's parlor.
