This 4-1/2" x 6-1/2" black and white photograph shows a ten-story stone building with windows on each floor and a ornate roof line. A sign for Central National Bank is visible in one of the first floor windows. There are two streetlights, a garbage can, and a fire hydrant on the sidewalk in front of the building. "Security Mutual Bldg." is written on the photograph.
This Lincoln landmark at 12th and O Streets had its origins in the Burr Block of 1888, designed by architect James Tyler as a six-story "skyscraper" complete with elevator. It was the tallest office building in Lincoln at that time. George Berlinghof and Ellery Davis re-designed it in 1915 for the Security Mutual Insurance Company as a ten-story building, reusing the stone of the older building but thoroughly reworking the structure, inside and out. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
