A five-story brick building stands on a corner in this 6-1/2" x 4-1/2" black and white photograph. The first floor of the building has large windows, and the upper floors have smaller windows. Cars are parked on one of the two streets that intersect in front of the building, and people are walking on the sidewalks. Other smaller structures can be seen next to the building. "Richards Block" is written on the photograph.
The Richards Block at the northeast corner of 11th and O Streets in Lincoln, Nebraska, took its name from an 1880s building that stood on the site until it was destroyed by fire in 1899. Rebuilt with brick bearing walls and a timber interior structure, the "new" Richards Block maintained this appearance for a half century, then was extensively remodeled and sheathed in limestone in 1950. The Annex Cafe is visible among the storefronts extending north (left) up 11th Street, while the taller Lincoln Commercial Club completes that vista.
