A three-story brick building stands on a corner in this 6-1/2" x 4-1/2" black and white photograph. The building has signs on each street side that read "Henkle & Joyce Hardware Co." and "Wholesale Hardware". There are windows on each floor and a covered dock on one side of the building. There are railroad tracks leading up to the dock and a delivery truck parked next to it. "Henkle & Joyce Hardware Co." is written on the photograph.
The building at the northeast corner of 8th and Q Streets was constructed in 1891 for Jones, Douglas and Company, a cracker manufacturer. The Henkle Hardware Company acquired the bakery building around 1900 and it remained a wholesale hardware enterprise for over a century. A 1929 advertisement for the store noted that it sold "Wholesale Hardware, Sporting Goods, and Automobile Supplies."
