A large group of schoolchildren and teachers stand in front of a multi-story brick school in this 7" x 10" black and white photograph. This was the original Crawford school on 5th Street.
Built in 1890 at a cost of approximately $25,000, the school was demolished in 1956 to make way for a new elementary building. The bell, added to the tower in 1907, is in a monument on the present elementary school lawn at 5th and Coates Street.
