Historical Notes |
Margaret Zeilinger was born in David City, Nebraska, October 30, 1908, to Richard W. and Elizabeth Zeilinger. While attending high school, she worked for the Barker Weeder Manufacturing Company and played piano a local theater to accompany silent movies. She was a member of the Campfire Girls and was awarded a UTA National Honor for her Garden Diary, which was printed in the Campfire National Paper. After graduation from David City High School, Margaret attended Grinnell College for one year, then tranferred to Doane College and graduated in 1930 with a degree in Music, English and History. She taught school for two years then married Ray Sabata on September 18, 1933. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church and served as church pianist and taught Sunday School. She was also an active member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter BQ, P.E.O. She was the mother of two children: Robert and Katherine. Margaret died August 26, 2001, and is buried in the David City Cemetery. Richard C. Zeilinger, Margaret Zeilinger's brother, was born in David City on July 26, 1907. He owned and operated Zeilinger Hardware along with his father. He married Lucille Harris in York, Nebraska, October 25, 1939. They raised two children: Anne and Jane. He was a Member of the City Council 1943-1954 and served as Mayor of David City 1954-1958. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the David City Hospital, Chamber of Commerce and Church Council. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge #51. Richard died April 22, 1964, and is buried in the David City Cemetery. |
