Historical Notes
Charles Henry Harris, born January 12, 1858, to Nathaniel and Ardilla Harris, Columbus, Indiana, was one of eight children. He married Jessie Jones, February 20, 1882. Jessie was born November 12, 1863. They moved from Indiana to Nebraska by train in 1885 and farmed east of Bellwood. In 1894, Charles bought a farm west of Bellwood where they lived until 1905, when they moved to David City. Charles Harris was the first County Assessor in 1903. He later worked in a bank and then worked in the County Treasurer's office. Frank and Lula are two of their five children. Frank was a pharmacist, married Lila Wilson, and had three children. Lula married Oscar Talbot and they farmed in Butler County until retiring in David City. Charles died in 1946 and Jessie died in 1949.
