Historical Notes
Joseph Shramek lived in David City from 1877-1948. He was a charter member of the David City Commerce Club, a former President of the Butler County State Bank, and for 15 years was associated in the wholesale distributing company that bore his name. He was also on the building committee of the present St. Mary's Church, which was dedicated in 1911. The old city office building on the corner of 5th and D Streets was built by him in 1902 and was the first home of the Butler County State Bank. His home at 927 7th Street was donated to the Catholic Church for use as a nursing home and was named St. Joseph's Villa in his honor. He died in 1948.
