Historical Notes
Lyle, Fay and Garth Osterhout were the children of Frank M. and Anna Johnson Osterhout, a lumberman in David City, and the grandchildren of Judge George Washington Osterhout, one of the earliest settlers of Butler County, Nebraska. Lyle was born October 18, 1888 and died in May 1982 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He married Helen Bouse and they raised two daughters: Margaret and Lylith. Lyle worked in his father's lumberyard, Osterhout & Becker, in David City until 1941 when the family moved to Lincoln. Lyle graduated from the University of NE and was a World War I veteran. He owned a bookstore in David City and sold books to Nebraska schools after moving to Lincoln in 1941. Fay was born February 22, 1890. After graduating from the University of NE, she married Howard L. Britt and they lived in Lincoln where they owned a Willys automobile dealership. Both Fay and Britt served as Nebraska State senators in the 1950s. Fay died January, 1980 in Lincoln. Garth was born May 17, 1894. He graduated from Lincoln Business College and worked as a carpenter in David City. Garth and his wife, Vera Anderson, had two daughters: Carolyn and Jean. Garth died November 27, 1994, in Florida. Lyle and Garth are both buried in the David City cemetery, as are their parents and grandparents.
