A 2"x3" acetate negative, 1977 or 1978 copy of a photograph of the Dus Tavern in downtown Brainard, Nebraska, taken prior to 1911. The white, wood-sided, corner building features a center pediment, a wood and shingled awning and is bordered on two sides with a boardwalk and unpaved streets. A group of 15 men, all wearing hats and a variety of clothing, are standing in front of the store on the boardwalk. The boardwalks extends across the unpaved streets on both sides of the building. The town hall is located next door. John Dus, b. ca. 1855, opened the tavern in 1891.

Historical Notes
John Dus was born in 1855. He immigrated to the United States in 1882, settling in Wahoo, Nebraska. In 1891, he moved to Brainard, Nebraska and bought Posvar's Store, remodeling it into a saloon. Dus later added a dance hall and then sold the business in 1913 and retired. He died in 1940.
