A 4"x6" glass plate negative, full-figure studio portrait of four sons and one daughter of George Schweser, David City, Nebraska. Harold, Carl and Robert Schweser are dressed in suits with ties; Frederick Schweser is dressed in a sailor-collared, double-breasted suit with knickers and knee-hi stockings. Louise Schweser has a large, white bow on top of her head and is wearing a white dress and tights, white shoes with bows and a bracelet on her wrist. The painted backdrop features an antique, floral drape. |

Historical Notes |
Pictured are the five children of George and Elise Schweser of David City, Nebraska. Harold was born March 21, 1893. He married Edith Johnson of New York, June 21, 1918. They raised three daughters: Catherine, Lee and Edith Marie. Harold served as a lieutenant in the balloon service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, during World War I. After the war, he managed the family-owned Schweser department store in Fremont, Nebraska. He died June 3, 1940, when he accidently fell off the roof of the three-story Schweser Department Store. Carl Schweser was born March 27, 1895. He married Blanche Cook in 1921 and they had one daughter, Jeanette. He served as an airplane mechanic stationed at Camp Taylor, Alabama, during World War I. Following the war, he farmed for a few years before becoming an appraiser for the Federal Land Bank. He later worked at the Martim Bomber Plant in Omaha, Nebraska, until his retirement. He died February 11, 1945, in Kearney, Nebraska. Robert Schweser was born November 2, 1896. He married Fern Breadsly and served in the Navy during World War I. |
