The 4" x 2 1/2" black and white photograph shows the sanctuary of the Immanuel Chapel at the Immanuel Deaconess Institute. Taken from the rear of the sanctuary, the photograph depicts light shining through a large, arching, stained glass window above the altar. Rows of pews face the altar and pulpit at the front of the church. The sanctuary has a vaulted ceiling with arched support beams, from which light fixtures are hanging. The back of the photograph bears the handwritten caption: "Sanctuary of Immanuel Medical Center Church".
Construction on the Immanuel Medical Center Chapel, which was made possible by donations from the Women's Missionary Society of the Augustana Synod, among others, began in November 1925. Services were first held on August 29, 1926, and the chapel was dedicated on June 20, 1927. The chapel could seat 400 people and had additional room for wheelchairs. The chapel fell into disrepair and was condemned in 1986. Recently, Rev. J.H. Webb led restoration efforts in order to rededicate the church. Unfortunately, the church is no longer standing.
