This black and white photograph shows an aerial view of the third hospital at the Immanuel Deaconess Institute shortly after it was built in 1926. The three main hospital buildings and the chapel are seen in the middle of the photograph. The turreted building on the left is the Nazareth Home (formerly the first hospital), where invalids were cared for. The turreted building on the right is the Home for the Aged (formerly the second hospital). The deaconess home is on the plot of land behind the chapel and second hospital, or the upper right-hand corner of the photograph. A large greenhouse is set across the street from the main buildings on the left-hand side of the photograph. The laundry building, with a smokestack, and the children's home are featured in the lower right-hand corner.
Original format: black and white photographic print, 9.75 x 7.75 inches.
Historical Notes
This photograph has been considerably retouched to make the campus buildings more prominent for reproduction in publications. This specific photograph graced the cover of the December 1926 issue of The Banner. The third Immanuel Deaconess Institute hospital opened on May 24, 1926.
