Chronic Illness Wing cornerstone ceremony, Immanuel Deaconess Institute
Description
This 10" x 8" black and white photographic print shows three men in topcoats and hats taking part in the cornerstone ceremony for the new chronic illness wing of the Immanuel Deaconess Institute hospital. An inscribed cornerstone is ready to be set in place in the new brick wall. From left to right in the photo are: Dr. (Rev.) Paul M. Lindberg, Spencer E. Brader, and Dr. (Rev.) Malvin H. Lundeen. Lundeen holds a trowel and applies mortar to the wall. A small wooden table with a supply of mortar stands in front of Lundeen. The inscription on the cornerstone reads "1962. Dedicated to the relief of pain and loneliness in the name of Christ. Come to me all who labor and are heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Matt. 11:28.

Historical Notes
Constructed in 1962 as an addition to the hospital, the Chronic Illness Wing replaced the Invalids Home. The Chronic Illness Wing provided long-term and convalescent care. The hospital was located on the 3400 block of Meredith Ave. Dr. (Rev.) Paul Lindberg was the Hospital Board President and Chairman. Spencer E. Brader was the CEO of Immanuel from 1957-1972 and also served as President of the Nebraska State Hospital Association. Malvin H. Lundeen served as President of the Augustana Lutheran Synod and was the first Secretary of the Lutheran Church of America from 1962-1965.
