Joseph B. Hummel was Omaha's park commissioner for 21 of the 27 years between 1912 and 1939. During those years, Joe Hummel became famous for his honesty, bluntness, ability to stretch a dollar, and habit of working 16-hour days, seven days a week. Hummel Park was named after him.
