Lexington Street from Railroad, Lexington, Nebraska
Description
This lightly tinted 5-1/2" x 3-1/2" postcard shows businesses along a pole-lined dirt street looking north from the railroad tracks. Most of the brick and wooden buildings appear to be one or two-story buildings with a taller one topped by a spire in the distance. A sign on the side of the building to the far right mentions hardware while the sign on the next building advertises Green's Restaurant. The business across the street is selling something for five cents.
While the postcard is not totally clear on whether this street was originally named Lexington Street, it is now known as Washington Street. The distinctive spire in the distance still tops a three-story red-stone building on the southwest corner of Washington and West 6th Streets. Many of the one and two-story buildings along the pole-lined dirt street have since been razed or remodeled
