Historical Notes
John Albert Boston was the father of Harvey L. Boston, David City photographer. John was born May 17, 1831, in Pennsylvania to George G. and Nancy Morrison Boston. He married Sarah Barbara Durstine, November 6, 1852, in Pennsylvania. They lived in Pennsylvania for 4 years then Illinois for 12 years before moving to Iowa, where they lived for 18 years. From Iowa, they moved to Rushville, Nebraska, then moved to David City in 1891. John and Sarah had seven children: Annah Ellen, William Alfred, Mary Maholah, Orren Wilbert, John Henry, Hugh Emery and Harvey Louis. John was a member of the Baptist church for 60 years. He belonged to Co. B., 75th Infantry Volunteers of Illinois, serving in the Civil War for three years. He was a member of the Grand Army Post. He worked as a farmer and ran a blacksmith shop while living in David City. John died January 27, 1913, and is buried in the David City Cemetery.
