Emil Folda was born in Manitowac, Wisconsin, May 16, 1866, to John and Carolina Folda, who both immigrated to the U.S. from Bohemia. He came to Nebraska with his parents at two years of age. His parents homesteaded in Colfax County, in the area known as Huen; which is where Emil grew up. He married Emilie Peshek of David City, September 4, 1893. Emil started in the banking business in 1877 as a bookkeeper and then as an assistant cashier in the 1st National Bank in David City. Emil and Emilie then moved to Linwood, where Emil became president of the Farmers & Merchants State Bank. Emil and Emilie had two children: Albin(e), born December 1894, and Laura, born, February 1898. Emilie died April 20, 1904, and is buried in the David City Cemetery. Emil married Antonette "Tony" Sadilek in Wilbur, Nebraska, September 2, 1905, and they had one daughter, Olga. According to the 1920 census, Emil and his family had moved to Clarkson, Colfax County, Nebraska, where Emil was listed as President of Clarkson State Bank. Emil died October 30, 1935, and is buried in the Huen Cemetery, Colfax County, where he grew up. Emil's son, Albin, was killed in France during World War I, October 21, 1918. Emil's daughter, Laura, married Joseph Kucera of Clarkson. |
